YOGA ANATOMY WITH DR. EDWARD NEILL
YOGA ANATOMY WITH DR. EDWARD NEILL
The Yoga Teacher’s Guide to Anatomy
The Yoga Teacher’s Guide to Anatomy: Integrating Bones, Joints, Muscles, and Neural Pathways for Yoga Practice with Dr. Edward Neill, D.C.
Saturday, November 9th, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM
Session 1: "The Foundation of Movement: Skeletal Structure & Joint Function"
In this session, we’ll explore the bones that form the body’s structural foundation and the key joints that enable movement. You’ll gain a deep understanding of how the skeletal system supports physical activity and how joints contribute to mobility and stability in yoga practice. This essential knowledge equips yoga teachers with the tools to guide students through safe, effective asanas.
Sunday, November 10th, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM
Session 2: "The Core of It All: Muscular System, Origins, Insertions & Stability"
This session delves into the muscular system, focusing on how muscles generate movement, strength, and stability. We will cover the origins and insertions of key muscle groups and how they contribute to specific movements in yoga practice. Participants will learn how to engage these muscles mindfully to maintain core integrity and improve stability.
Saturday, April 12th, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM
Session 3: "Nervous System & Mind-Body Connection: Pathways of Movement and Sensation"
In this session, we’ll explore the nervous system, focusing on peripheral nerves, their pathways, and the muscles or skin areas they innervate. By understanding how nerves interact with the body, yoga teachers will gain valuable insights into how the nervous system influences movement, sensation, and coordination in yoga. We’ll also discuss how nerve function impacts muscle engagement and how to address areas affected by nerve compression or tension, helping teachers foster a mind-body connection that supports well-being.
Sunday, April 13th, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM
Session 4: "Breath and Beyond: Respiratory System & Pranayama"
This session covers two essential aspects of breath in yoga: the anatomy of breathing and pranayama practice. We’ll begin by exploring the respiratory system, focusing on the diaphragm and its role in respiration mechanics and trunk stability. Understanding how the diaphragm and other respiratory muscles function will help teachers appreciate the connection between breath, movement, and posture.
We’ll then shift to pranayama, discussing various breath control techniques that are foundational in yoga. Through pranayama, students can regulate energy, improve mental clarity, and promote relaxation. This session provides yoga teachers with tools to guide both the physical and subtle aspects of breathing, enriching their students’ practice on multiple levels.
