The form of the body gives impact to the quality of the mind-
And the steadiness of the mind allows us to transition & flow with life, keeping our attention centered internally to the Self. In yoga we say that when we come into the alignment of our innate intelligence, we align with the divinity within
We all have imbalances in the body that may have been caused from past accidents, injuries & lifestyle habits. These imbalances are caused by muscle weakening in some areas & tightness in others that may result in structural misalignments, rotations in bones & disc problems. So the alignment of the poses helps us shift these old patterns
This workshop will provide you with clear Iyengar alignment principles. We will explore how “technique” or awareness of action provides a steadiness, stability and ease to move you deeper into refining your poses with a reflective, calm mind that builds confidence. Instruction will be given to building a strong base through standing poses, lateral extensions, twists, forward & back bends, balancing poses & inversions to allow the asanas to build on each other. We will also explore the koshas / sheaths or the layers of our being: physical, pranic (energy) flow, mental, wisdom, and bliss. This examination will deepen our understanding of the practice.
It’s not about how much or far we can go but the quality with how we practice. With reflection we can move from our habitual patterns to feel something new, shifting away from old habitual patterns. Through practice, the inner light of intelligence awakens penetrating through the layers of our koshas/beingness to reveal our essential nature.
About Paula Weithman m.ed, lpc
Paula uses a mindfulness based practice to guide students into a place of receptivity that develops insight and self-understanding. Her style is clear and compassionate. Paula’s personal practice started in 1976. She is a certified senior level Iyengar Instructor. She is also accredited through the Yoga Alliance E-RYT 500hr and is certified 500hr. through Namaste International. She believes that yoga is a medicine for the body/mind &incorporates her background as a yoga therapist and mindfulness-based psychotherapist into her private practice. Her aim is in facilitating people’s development of a stronger relationship with themselves as it relates to vitality & well-being.

If possible, please bring 2 blocks, 1 strap and 2 blankets or shower towels from home and a strap for the workshop.
